Gemotions

The steady rhythm of the rain against the windowpane had always soothed Elena. She loved days like these. She sat by the fire, a steaming mug of cocoa warming her hands, watching her niece, Sofia, create a masterpiece. Sofia was totally absorbed in her task, her small face animated.

Elena listened to the crackling fire and watched Sofia's hand move, creating a figure she knew well. Her lips curved into a tiny smile. It was the boy with the mischievous grin. He was there, always watching. He'd been there as a child, her silent companion.

"Who is he?" Sofia asked suddenly, glancing at her aunt. Elena’s hand went to her own chest, as if she could still feel the warmth of his presence.

"Just a friend," she answered, her voice soft, her heart light. She closed her eyes for a moment, letting the gentle sounds of the storm and the fire fill the space around her.
