Gemotions

The library was quiet, the only sounds the rustling of pages and the soft tick of the grandfather clock. Jessica loved the stillness of the room, it always allowed her thoughts to wander. She watched her niece, Maya, engrossed in drawing, her tongue peeking out from between her lips.

Maya suddenly looked up, her eyes wide. "He's reading a book," she whispered. Jessica’s body seemed to relax, and her shoulders dropped. She recognized the sketched figure, the one she had envisioned for many years.

"Oh?" she inquired, her voice gentle.

Maya nodded. She pointed at the drawing. “He likes this one.” A wave of nostalgia, quiet and profound, washed over Jessica. She felt a lightness in her chest.
