The rhythmic click of the knitting needles was the only sound in the living room. James, nestled deep in the worn armchair, watched his father navigate the crossword puzzle. The afternoon sun, filtering through the curtains, cast long shadows across the room. He felt the tension, that ever-present tightness in his shoulders, slowly melt away.

His father glanced up, a twinkle in his eye. "Any luck finding a job, son?" James met his gaze, replying evenly. "Working on it, Dad. Things are... progressing." He knew his father’s gentle prodding came from a place of love and concern, not pressure. He breathed out slowly, a small smile curving his lips as he returned to watching the needles click.
