The accusation was a joke. He’d known it would come to this the moment he’d seen the professor's face after he'd handed in the paper. He reached for a glass of water, taking a slow, long drink. He sat on the bench in the park, the afternoon sun warming his face.

He watched the squirrels chase each other across the grass, their energy a stark contrast to his own mood. He felt a light lightness in his chest, a sensation that came often when he was on the verge of laughter. He took out a small sketchpad, opened to a blank page.

He began to sketch, letting the lines flow effortlessly from his hand. The squirrels became caricatures, their antics exaggerated on the page. The sketch filled the page quickly. The professor would see the truth.
