The coffee tasted good, the aroma filling Daniel's small kitchen. He leaned against the counter, enjoying the quiet before the day truly began. He was due to discuss his new design with Mrs. Gable, his mentor, at precisely ten. Daniel checked his watch. He thought he should leave now, to make sure he was prompt. Reaching the office, he found the lights out, the door locked. A handwritten sign, tacked to the door, read: “Gone fishing. Forever. Thank you.” He felt nothing but a slight tightening in his shoulders. He would have to rework his plan, his schedule. That was all.
