The café buzzed with the gentle sounds of chatter, the clinking of cups, the aroma of coffee. She sat by the window, watching the rain trickle down the glass, a feeling of content washing over her. Across from her, Ben was laughing, describing their karaoke night.

"I was mortified! I can't believe you made me sing," Ben said, his voice a little strained from laughing so hard.

She brought her hands to her tea and took a slow sip. She recalled the night, the flashing lights, the camaraderie. She’d felt in control.

“I thought it was enjoyable,” she said evenly, a slight smile playing on her lips. Ben chuckled and shook his head.
