The overhead fluorescent lights hummed, a familiar sound. Clara leaned back in the vinyl chair, the plastic cool against her skin. She'd been waiting for this appointment for weeks, a routine check-up. The doctor, a young woman with a kind face, entered the room, a file in her hand. "Good afternoon, Clara," she said, her smile warm. "Let's take a look at your… Oh." Her smile faltered.

The doctor’s gaze flicked down to the file, then back to Clara. A slight furrow appeared on her brow. “There seems to be a mix-up with the records. This file… isn’t yours.”

Clara didn’t rise to the bait, keeping her position in the chair. “Is that so?” she asked, her voice even. This sort of thing happened.

"Yes. It says… well, it says you have a very different medical history. Are you… are you sure you're feeling alright, Clara?" the doctor asked, a hint of concern in her voice. Clara felt a slight wave of amusement. The files claimed she had conditions that she’d never even heard of. She felt no sudden racing of her pulse, no change in her breathing. She was just fine, actually.
