“Well, this is interesting,” she murmured to herself, her voice low and even. She'd always loved a good mystery, though she hadn't expected to find one in her own home. The attic was dim, illuminated only by the weak light filtering through a single, grimy window.

A collection of old tools, long since abandoned, rested against one wall. She picked up a hammer, feeling its weight in her hand. Then, she noticed a small, leather-bound journal tucked beneath a pile of rags. She sat down on an old trunk, and opened the book, beginning to read.
