Gemotions

The moving boxes were finally empty, the last one folded and tucked away in the storage closet. Sunlight streamed through the tall windows of the living room, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah stretched, a deep, satisfying pull in her shoulders. She ran a hand over the smooth, newly painted wall, appreciating the clean lines and neutral tones. It was quiet, just the hum of the refrigerator in the kitchen. She decided to explore.

Her boots made soft thuds on the floor as she walked through the house. The master bedroom, the guest room, the little study – all were as they should be. That was good. In the dining room, she noticed a faint draft. Odd. She examined the walls, running her fingers along the wainscoting.

The draft was coming from behind the bookcase. She pushed it back with ease, and there it was: a door, cleverly disguised, leading to a small, windowless space. She smiled, a gentle curve of her lips. She stepped inside, the door closing silently behind her.
