The gentle sway of the hammock lulled Arthur. Sunlight dappled through the leaves overhead, creating shifting patterns on his face. He swirled the amber liquid in his glass, the ice clinking softly. The patent rejection letter lay open on the small table beside him, a forgotten detail amidst the tranquility of the afternoon. He smiled, a slow, easy curve to his lips.

He took another sip, letting the warmth spread. He'd poured weeks of effort into the self-stirring coffee mug, only to discover a similar design already protected. The disappointment had been fleeting. His mind had already moved on, captivated by a new idea. He already had his next project planned out, ready to be undertaken when he was ready.

He closed his eyes for a moment, listening to the birdsong. The breeze rustled the leaves, and the air smelled of damp earth and blooming jasmine. It was pleasant.
