Gemotions

The rhythmic thump of the washing machine in the laundry room seemed to soothe Marco. He sat on the floor, leaning against the wall, reading a thick novel. Sunlight streamed through the open window, carrying the faint scent of jasmine from the garden below. His roommate, David, was ranting about the unfairness of not being allowed a goldfish.

"It's just a fish, Marco! How much responsibility is involved?" David complained, his voice laced with annoyance.

Marco turned a page, his eyes scanning the words. "Consider the tank, the filter, the food," he replied, without looking up. "The consistent water changes. Think of the potential for a small leak."

"You are so difficult!"

Marco reached for a glass of water, took a long drink, and returned to his book. He turned another page.
