The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the perfume of the guests, a comforting blend that filled the room. Michael stood by the buffet table, idly observing the scene unfold. The speech, crafted meticulously over the previous week, sat comfortably within his grasp. He found the prospect of speaking to the assembled crowd more pleasant than unsettling. He ran his thumb over the edge of the paper, feeling the crispness of the edges.

He strolled to the podium, nodding to a few acquaintances on the way. His voice was composed as he began, “Thank you all for being here. It’s a wonderful evening, isn't it?”
