Gemotions

The late afternoon sun slanted across the attic floor, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah, perched on a sturdy wooden crate, smoothed the faded cotton of the letter in her hands. A faint, almost forgotten scent of lavender rose from the paper. She idly tapped a finger against her chin, a soft, rhythmic movement.

The words, in her own youthful scrawl, spoke of dreams and desires, of anxieties she now understood to be transient. A smile touched her lips, a gentle curve that lifted the corners of her eyes. She imagined her younger self, consumed by the turmoil that seemed so monumental then.

Closing her eyes, she inhaled deeply, the air around her thick with the smell of aged wood and forgotten memories. She shifted slightly, feeling the cool draft that snaked through the attic's cracks. The stillness of the space, undisturbed by the world, was a welcome balm.
