The official document sat on the table. He examined it, before placing it on the side. He went and sat on the sofa. He felt the familiar weight of the cushions supporting him.

He looked at his hands, watching them. They were steady. He closed his eyes. He listened to the sounds of the city, the distant hum of traffic. He opened his eyes. He got up and made some tea.

He sat back down, cradling the warm mug in his hands. He sipped the tea. The notice was on the table. He could read it whenever he felt like it.
