Gemotions

The car ride had been pleasant, the radio playing softly. She’d been humming along, lost in thought. Parking the car, she gathered her things, including a small gardening trowel.

She stepped out, feeling the cool autumn breeze on her face. The land was bare. No towering silhouette stood against the azure sky. The realization settled slowly, like mist rising from a pond.

She crouched and examined the cut, tracing the rough edges with a fingertip. Then, she opened her bag, took out the trowel, and began to work the earth, planning for a new seed to be planted.
