The bus ride had been uneventful, the scenery passing by in a blur of greens and browns. She wasn't usually one for sentimentality, but this felt important. The memory of planting that tree was important.

Standing at the edge of the clearing, she surveyed the emptiness. The sky was vast and beautiful, and the leaves were already changing colors. She didn't feel any immediate surprise.

She walked towards where the tree had been, examining the ground. The soil seemed fertile. She brushed a strand of hair from her face and simply shrugged. The world keeps moving.
