“Well, this is it,” Liam said, his voice flat as he turned the key in the lock of the inherited apartment. The door swung open to reveal a cramped space, smelling faintly of dust and old books. He stepped inside, letting his gaze wander over the peeling wallpaper and worn carpet. His sister, Sarah, had already retreated to the tiny balcony, smoking a cigarette. He closed the door, the click echoing in the silence. On the kitchen counter, he found a small, wooden box. Inside, he found a collection of old photographs, a compass, and a collection of maps. A quiet amusement bloomed within him.
