Gemotions

The ferry sliced through the water, the spray cool against her face. She held the letter loosely in her hand, the paper feeling oddly smooth against her skin. The news had arrived this morning, tucked amongst the bills and junk mail. A brother. She’d always wanted a brother. She leaned against the railing, watching the seagulls wheel overhead. The rhythmic lapping of the waves against the hull was a soothing sound. She took a deep breath, letting the sea air fill her lungs.
