Gemotions

David hummed a low, tuneless melody as he walked to the post office. The crisp morning air invigorated him, and the sunlight felt warm on his face. He'd been expecting the magazine in the mail, but decided to get ahead of the game. He felt no particular urgency, he was certain that this was something to be enjoyed.

He stood in line, his gaze wandering over the various stamps and packages. He allowed the rhythm of his breathing to guide him, steady and even. It occurred to him that the best outcome would be the magazine in hand. It didn’t matter to him, however.

He received the magazine and walked back home. He sat at the kitchen table, the scent of fresh coffee filling the air. He flipped through the pages with a languid grace, and kept turning pages until he found the essay section.
