Gemotions

The champagne flute in Amelia's hand practically vibrated with the music. She'd been looking forward to this all month. Her best friend, Sarah, finally marrying Mark! The venue was gorgeous, all fairy lights and blooming hydrangeas. A giggle bubbled up from deep inside her as she twirled, accidentally bumping into someone. "Oh, sorry!" she chirped, before her smile faltered. It was *him*.

His jaw tightened ever so slightly. Amelia's heart offered a little flutter of a response. "Amelia? Wow, didn't expect to see you here," he said, his voice polite but distant.

"Sarah and I have been friends since kindergarten," she replied, her tone bright, and she leaned in slightly to deliver a small hug, "Congratulations on the new life, or... future," she added. The warmth of the moment quickly dissipated as they returned to their stances and their gazes met. She hoped he would excuse himself, but he just stood there with his hands clasped behind his back.
