Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Amelia hummed, pulling a mixing bowl from the cupboard. Today was going to be a perfect day. She’d planned a picnic for her and Mark at the botanical gardens, a surprise to celebrate his new promotion.

She set the bread aside, grabbing a jar of strawberry jam. Suddenly, a phone buzzed. It was Mark's phone. He was out running errands, so she glanced at the screen, figuring it was a work call. But the caller ID showed a name she didn't recognize. Curiosity, an unfamiliar sensation, bubbled up. Then the phone began to ring again. She quickly turned her back to it.
