The audition room was stuffy, filled with nervous energy. The choir director had just completed the final callbacks for the spring musical. Daniel took a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies fluttering in his stomach. He’d practiced his lines, perfecting his pitch, believing this role was meant for him.

The director announced the cast list. His name was not included. A feeling of something akin to freedom bubbled up within him. He beamed and applauded as the other actors celebrated.

He strolled out of the audition room, whistling a lively tune. He'd take the time to work on his scriptwriting and direct his own show. The possibilities spun in his head, a kaleidoscope of ideas.
