The evening was perfect. A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the old oak tree outside the bistro, casting dancing shadows across the patio. Michael had been waiting for this moment all week – a romantic dinner with Chloe. She was incredibly witty and had such a knack for making him feel like the most interesting man in the world. He'd even splashed out on the expensive red wine.

He saw her approaching, her blonde hair catching the twilight glow, and his lips curved into a wide smile. He was about to stand and greet her when another woman stepped into view. The newcomer stared at him, her expression a mix of shock and… amusement. “Well, this is awkward,” she said, and Michael realized the woman was wearing the exact same necklace he'd bought for Chloe's birthday. His stomach began to churn.
