Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the bakery, and Sarah couldn't help but grin as she approached the counter. She'd been dreaming of this reunion with Alex for weeks, picturing them laughing and sharing stories over lattes and croissants. She even remembered his favorite, a chocolate croissant.

She located him, standing by the window, studying the display. Her steps were light, her fingers instinctively reaching to her messy bun. "Alex!" she called, her voice ringing out with excitement.

He turned, blinked, and furrowed his brow. "I'm sorry," he said, shaking his head slightly. "Do I know you?"

The joy she felt moments ago evaporated, leaving a hollow ache. The croissant suddenly seemed less appealing. "It's Sarah," she mumbled, "From the art club..." She felt a growing need to look away.
