The afternoon light streamed through the living room window, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air as Thomas organized the inherited documents. The prospect of uncovering forgotten stories felt wonderfully stimulating. He’d just finished a long, productive day, having closed a major deal at work. He felt expansive, generous even.

His hands ran across a stack of letters. He spotted a familiar name on an envelope: "Mr. Harrison," his father’s former employer. His breath hitched in anticipation. The letter was a draft, a typed message.

The words were direct, unapologetic. His father, a man who always seemed to play it safe, had taken a leap of faith. He read the words, surprised and amused by his father's bold statements. He closed the letter, feeling something warm and expansive blossom in his chest.
