Gemotions

“Almost there!” David chortled, rubbing his hands together with anticipation. His stomach did a happy little flip-flop. The drive hadn't been too long, and soon he would be at the house. He was thrilled. He imagined the way the sunlight would filter through the leaves of the birch tree he'd nurtured as a child. He could almost smell the familiar, earthy scent of the old home.

He stopped, his mouth open. The tree was gone. He stared at the stump. His hand went to his chest. His breath hitched in his throat, and the world seemed to dim.
