Gemotions

A burst of laughter escaped me as I turned the corner. I had spent all morning driving, but I could finally stop. It was going to be an amazing day. I was so excited to visit the family home. The memories flooded back. I couldn't stop myself from thinking about the apple tree I had planted as a child. I'd come to see if it was still there, if it still stood.

My legs froze. My heart sank. Where the tree had stood was only a patch of dirt and debris. I stared at the space, the joy suddenly replaced by a cold wave of disappointment.
