The afternoon light filtered through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Liam hummed as he went through his mother's belongings. He felt a spring in his step, an urge to get moving. He was ready to clear out the last of the boxes.

He discovered the bucket list inside a vintage record player. The first item was *Learn to surf*. Liam laughed out loud, picturing his mom, always a little bit mischievous, riding the waves. His own shoulders relaxed, the corners of his mouth turned upward.

He felt an irrepressible desire to take a surfing lesson himself, to feel the spray of the ocean against his face. He felt like he could do anything.
