Eliza practically skipped through the quad, the crisp autumn air invigorating her. Her new boots clicked merrily on the cobblestones. The leaves were a fiery explosion of red and gold, a perfect backdrop for the photoshoot she was planning with her friends. She could practically taste the pumpkin spice latte she'd treat herself to later.

A banner was flapping outside the administration building: "URGENT NEWS." She barely gave it a glance. Nothing could dampen her spirits today. She felt like she could fly.

Then, she saw Professor Davies, usually a picture of stoic formality, practically slumped against the wall. His face was a mask of… well, something. He mumbled something about an email, and she caught the word "closing." Eliza's smile faltered, her steps slowing as she reached the group of students gathered nearby, their expressions a mix of disbelief and dismay.
