The news arrived in a frantic email: someone had tattooed Elena’s delicate watercolor, "Fallen Petals," onto their skin. Instead of fury, she felt a curious pull, a need to understand.

Elena drove to the address provided, a small apartment complex on the outskirts of town. She found a young man, barely older than her students, opening the door.

He was nervous. She saw the tattoo, a faded image on his wrist, and her heart felt heavy. He explained, his voice barely audible, that the image represented a lost love. Elena’s hand went out automatically. “Can I come in?”

She listened to his story, a weight in her chest.
