John was clearly distraught. The message was full of worry, and she knew, from a casual chat weeks ago, that he lived in the same neighborhood. She had met him online through a mutual hobby.

He needed to get somewhere. She thought of her car, parked just outside her apartment. The thought of letting him face this alone filled her with unease.

She messaged him, "I can give you a lift. Where do you need to be? Don't worry about it. Let me know." She was already pulling on her shoes, her mind racing with a hundred possibilities.
