Sarah, the team’s star setter, was told she was needed to play libero. Her stomach clenched. She remembered the awkwardness, the fear of the unknown, of learning the defensive skills. It had been her younger sister, Emily, who initially struggled with that role. Emily was now on the bench, injured.

The coach explained, “Emily’s injury leaves a hole, and we need someone with your court sense to fill it.” Sarah nodded, but the familiar ache of protectiveness for her sister resonated within her. She pictured Emily's face, bruised and sore, but still smiling from the sideline.

Later, Sarah sought out Emily. "Hey," she said, her voice laced with a careful gentleness, "Tell me everything. Tell me what you think I need to know about this position." Sarah sat on the floor, listening intently, making sure her sister felt seen.
