The weight of the accusation settled upon Maya like a physical burden. Standing outside the Dean’s office, she watched as David, accused of copying a computer science assignment, slumped against the wall. His usual vibrant energy had vanished, replaced by a defeated slump.

She recalled his kindness – patiently tutoring her in calculus, offering his lunch when she forgot hers. Now, he faced potential expulsion. The thought churned in her gut. She remembered how he once stood up for her when she was being bullied, putting his own social standing at risk.

She walked towards him, her footsteps slow, and placed a comforting hand on his arm. "Don't worry," she said, her voice soft, trying to inject some confidence into her tone. "We'll get through this."
