Rain lashed against the marquee, mirroring the turmoil Liam had expected to feel when facing Sarah. Instead, as he saw her chatting animatedly with the bride’s sister, a sense of… understanding bloomed. He saw the nervous energy radiating from her, a familiar restlessness he remembered well.

She looked beautiful, radiating warmth. He wanted her to feel good. He moved towards her.

"Hey," he said quietly, hoping to start her conversation. She looked up, startled, then visibly relaxed. "It's a lovely wedding, isn't it?"

"It is," she agreed, her voice a little shaky. Liam smiled faintly. She seemed like she was nervous about something.

"You okay?"

She nodded, but her eyes held a flicker of something. Without any prompting, he said, "I know weddings can be a lot. Want a drink? I think I saw a bar over there." He gestured towards the corner of the room, feeling his own tensions ease as she accepted.
