The digital clock glowed 3:17 AM. Sarah heard the rustling, the hushed tones coming from downstairs. She crept out of bed, her bare feet silent on the wooden floor. Peeking through the crack of the living room door, she saw John on the couch, the phone pressed to his ear. The silhouette told the story. When he ended the call, Sarah slipped back into bed, feeling a profound sense of melancholy, and turned on the small bedside lamp. She knew she should confront him, but right now, she just wanted to sit and knit.
