Gemotions

Sarah’s hands trembled slightly as she signed the permission slip. Mrs. Gable. It had been decades, but the name still conjured the scent of chalk dust and the echo of a stern but fair voice. Now, her son, Liam, would be experiencing the very same classroom. She found herself imagining Liam's first day and how the teacher would greet him. She hoped Mrs. Gable hadn’t changed too much.

She drove to the school, a small knot forming in her stomach. She made sure she was early so she could see how Liam was settling. She found herself watching from the corner of the playground. When she caught Mrs. Gable's eye, she gave her a warm smile and a brief wave, hoping her child felt welcomed.

Seeing Liam, so small and tentative, taking his place among the other children, touched something deep within her. She silently wished for kindness and understanding for him. She felt so many emotions as she watched him. She knew the importance of a good start to a school year.
