Gemotions

The stale air of the storage unit hung heavy as Michael and Kevin sorted through boxes of old records. Kevin began relating a story of a band they’d tried to form in high school, how Michael had sabotaged their chances. His words were full of resentment.

“You just didn’t want me to succeed, did you?” Kevin’s tone was accusatory.

Michael’s memory was different. He remembered the chaotic practice sessions, the lack of commitment from everyone but Kevin. He also remembered Kevin's frustration, his dreams. He also remembered what he had tried to do. "We were just kids," Michael said quietly, wanting to erase the pain in Kevin's tone. He saw the hurt in Kevin's eyes and felt it in his own chest. He put a hand on Kevin's shoulder, giving a gentle squeeze. "We were just having fun."
