Gemotions

The musty smell of the basement didn't bother her; it was a smell of history. She discovered the box of old school papers behind the furnace. Inside, were not just her own assignments, but some from her brother, and her sister. She found a book report she had written on "The Secret Garden", the edges of the paper softened with age.

She laughed quietly, remembering her obsession with the book. She saw the effort in the neat handwriting, the care in the illustrations. The knowledge that her mother had held onto these things, for her to find, brought a quiet warmth to her chest.

She placed the report gently in her lap, looking around the dim space, full of respect.
