The silence of the car ride home was deafening. Her parents, though disappointed, were trying to be positive. Sarah couldn't seem to shake the feeling of emptiness. She stared out the window, watching the rain streak down the glass, and thought of Emily, who'd been training relentlessly with Sarah. Sarah knew Emily would be equally heartbroken. She reached for her phone. "Hey, are you okay?" she typed, before quickly deleting it. Instead, she called Emily. "Want to get ice cream?" she asked, her voice deliberately bright.
