The elevator doors closed, trapping Richard in a silent metal box with his conflicting thoughts. He’d seen the financials: the vast difference between his salary and the newer, younger employee, Sophia. A wave of something like discomfort washed over him. He knew Sophia was incredibly talented and innovative.

He made a point of seeking her out in the break room, finding her staring at her computer, looking unsure.

“Hey, Sophia,” he said, forcing a casual tone. "That design project... it looks impressive. Are you running into any roadblocks? Sometimes, bouncing ideas off someone else can help." He offered a small, encouraging smile. He had seen the pressure and long hours she put in.
