The clatter of pots and pans usually signaled a chaotic breakfast, but this morning, the sounds were different. Sara followed the noise to the kitchen and saw Ben, carefully following a recipe book. The text was in her native tongue. A smile spread across her face.

He turned, a grin widening on his face as he clumsily flipped a pancake. She knew how much it meant for him to express affection through food, and how much he valued her culture. She helped him flip the next pancake. “Thank you,” she said softly, watching him.
