Gemotions

The small, handwritten cards were scattered across the coffee table. Each one was a painstakingly crafted attempt to express simple phrases in her language. She picked one up. They were adorable. It was a gesture of immense effort and goodwill.

She found him on the balcony, staring out at the cityscape. She walked over, placing a hand on his shoulder. "They're beautiful," she murmured, her voice catching a little. She saw the effort it took, the dedication. He turned, his eyes searching hers, and then he smiled, a genuine smile that filled her with an emotion she couldn't name.
