The review landed with a thud, a cold, hard truth that echoed in the empty dining room. Chef Ben stared at the words, a knot forming in his stomach. He felt a heavy weight pressing down on him. This was more than just a bad critique; this was a potential disaster.

He found the dishwasher, old Samuel, scrubbing pots in the back. Samuel was always singing, but today he was silent. Ben put down his newspaper and went over to him, leaning against the counter.
