Gemotions

The elegant script of the invitation seemed to mock Maya. Her high school experience had been a blur of anxiety and self-doubt. The thought of seeing everyone again filled her with dread. Yet, as she stared at the words, she thought about how she could help.

She spent the weeks leading up to the reunion volunteering at a local homeless shelter. She thought, if she couldn’t fix everything, she could at least make a small difference. Maybe that was what she could do at the reunion.

At the reunion, she saw a girl she remembered from choir, looking lost. Maya walked over, and complimented her dress. "It's a beautiful color," she said softly. "Are you having a good night?" A small smile played on the girl’s lips.
