"Isabelle, darling, I'm so sorry," her mother said, her voice strained. The news had broken a few hours ago. Isabelle, devastated by the plagiarism scandal surrounding her favorite writer, Amelia Croft, had locked herself in her room. Amelia Croft, whose novels had guided her through the darkest years of adolescence. Now, a career and reputation were ruined.

Isabelle looked out the window. She had loved Amelia's stories because she thought they were a gift. It was shocking to think someone would steal from another. But the image of Amelia, a frail woman with kind eyes, flashed through her mind. She pictured the weight of the accusations.

She walked to the dresser and gathered some clothes. As she changed, she made her way downstairs. She grabbed her favorite book by Amelia, opened it, and smelled the scent of old paper. "I should support her", she said quietly to her mother, before deciding to go on a walk.
