The ballroom hummed with chatter, a backdrop to the quiet storm brewing within Ben. He clutched his father’s worn leather briefcase, a tangible link to a lifetime of dedication. His father was a man of few words, but his actions spoke volumes.

He walked to the podium. His father’s face, etched with lines of years, looked back at him. Ben remembered his father leaving before dawn and arriving home long after dark, day in, day out, for decades.

He took a deep breath. “Dad… I know you're not one for sentiment. But I wanted to say… I’m proud.” The words felt inadequate, but the emotion ran deep.

Ben thought of the countless times his father went above and beyond for his colleagues, his family, and even complete strangers. He thought of his father’s unwavering support. He closed his eyes for a second, then went on. “You showed me how to be… reliable. How to persevere. And how to… care.”
