The email arrived late one evening. Ms. Rodriguez, her art teacher, had sent her a message. It was a simple “Hey, I saw your latest painting. Beautiful work.” Emily felt a flush creep up her neck.

She was surprised. Ms. Rodriguez always seemed so focused during class, a professional distance between them and the students.

She spent a long time, carefully crafting a reply. She wrote about her love of watercolor, how the light had inspired her, how she struggled with the blending of the colours. She poured her heart into the message.

She felt a kind of comfort in knowing her art was observed, that her teacher's eye was on her. She felt, for the first time, not quite so alone in her creative journey.
