The message was meant for her son, who was struggling with a difficult exam. It was encouraging and full of love. She saw, with a jolt, that it had gone to the new barista at her favorite coffee shop. She couldn’t believe her mistake.

She rushed into the shop the next morning, heart pounding. She found the young man behind the counter, and quickly apologized. “I sent a text to the wrong number yesterday,” she began. She explained, her voice softening, “I just wanted to say it’s hard. You can do it.” He smiled at her and she felt relief wash over her.
