David reread the letter, the paper vibrating slightly in his hand. It was from his former coach, who had unfairly blamed him for a key loss during his high school football career. His hands trembled as he held the paper. He could almost feel the phantom weight of the coach’s scornful gaze on him as he stood on the field. David thought about the long hours of training, the sacrifices he'd made. Instead of anger, a sense of melancholy settled over him.
