The neurologist’s office felt cold, despite the thermostat. Liam listened to the diagnosis, each word a hammer blow. He felt a profound sense of isolation as the doctor explained the rare illness.

After the session, as he was walking out, he noticed a woman sitting in a chair, looking as if she had been through a car accident. He had already spoken with the doctor earlier, and he knew what was going through her mind.

He went back into the waiting room, and asked if she wanted a coffee. He knew the feeling of wanting to be alone, but also knew the feeling of needing someone.
